Watching World Cup ‘like going to dentist,’ says Champions League fan Ferguson

LONDON - Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed the Champions League as the best competition in the world and believes that watching the World Cup is as painful as a trip to the dentist.

Ferguson, who managed Scotland as they made a first-round exit in the 1986 tournament, now believes the Champions League is No 1 for entertainment and worldwide appeal.

“It’s a natural thing. You won’t get the same crowd or attention or drama if you see Arsenal against a lower team rather than against Manchester United in the Premier League. But this is the best tournament for me, a fantastic tournament, and it is better than the World Cup in my opinion,” the Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.

“Have you seen the last six World Cups? It’s like going to the dentist. “In the Champions League, you get some unbelievable games. The group stage is just something you have to get through before it becomes more exciting,” he added.

United take on Bursaspor tonight in what is unlikely to be a classic, and are looking to extend a run of 22 unbeaten games in all competitions, the paper said.

Ferguson admitted: “We were concerned about giving goals away when we have been in front but, hopefully, we have eradicated that.” (ANI)
