Sehwag, Dravid send Kiwis on leather hunt on day one of Ahmedabad Test

AHMEDABAD - Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid scored centuries and shared a 237-run second wicket partnership to dominate day one of the first Test against New Zealand on Thursday.
Electing to bat at the Sardar Patel Stadium after skipper M.S. Dhoni won the toss, Sehwag scored 173 off 199 balls hitting 24 fours and a six.
It was the 22nd Test hundred and the fourth 150-above score for Sehwag.
Sehwag was initially involved in a 60-run opening partnership with Gautam Gambhir, who returned to the side after recovering from a knee injury.
Gambhir was the lone batsman to be dismissed in the first sessions when Jesse Ryder bowled the left-handed batsman for 21.
Gambir’s loss however had little effect on Sehwag, who continued his aggressive method of play and consolidated the innings with Dravid, who scored an old-school Test hundred.
Dravid scored 104, striking 14 fours in a 227-ball innings, before being bowled by Chris Martin.
At the end of the day’s play, Team India was at 329 for three with Sachin Tendulkar batting on 13 and V.V.S. Laxman on seven.
