‘Recuperating’ Tanvir dropped from Pak squad for South Africa Test series

LAHORE - Pakistani fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has been dropped from the Test squad for the upcoming series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates.

Tanvir was named in the Test squad announced last month, but the selectors had made it clear that his trip would be subject to fitness, as the left-arm fast bowler was recovering from a knee operation.

“The medical advice on Tanvir is that he needs to be given more time to complete his rehabilitation process and he will not be joining the Test squad,” the Daily Times quoted a selector, as saying.

Misbah-ul-Haq was earlier appointed as captain for the series in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.isbah is the fourth Pakistan Test captain this year after Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt.

The team will also see comebacks of fast bowler Mohammad Sami, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and opening batsman Taufiq Umar.

Kamran Akmal is out due to injury, while Zulqarnain Haider has been retained in the team for his fighting 88 runs in his debut and only match against England.
