Rudisha, Gay short-listed for world athlete of year award

MONTE CARLO - Kenyan middle distance sensation David Rudisha and American sprint star Tyson Gay are in a five-man shortlist for the World Athlete of the Year award, the International Association of Athletics Federations announced (IAAF) Tuesday.
The IAAF said that Rudisha, Gay, American 110 metres hurdler David Oliver, Norwegian javelin thrower Andreas Thorkildsen and Eritrean distance runner Zersenay Tadese make up the list.
Rudisha, 21, was arguably was the man of the season when he lowered the 800m world record twice to now 1 minute 41.01 seconds.
The winner will be announced at the World Athletics Gala on Nov 21 in Monte Carlo. The women’s shortlist will be published Wednesday.
