Asian Games weightlifting: Medal hope Ravi Kumar finishes fifth

GUANGZHOU - Indian wightlifter K. Ravi Kumar could not replicate the performance of Commonwealth Games and finished a disappointing fifth in the men’s 69kg category at the Asian Games here Sunday.

Ravi, who won a gold at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, was one of the medal prospects in weightlifting.

After lifting 141kg in snatch, the Indian needed to lift 180kg in the clean and jerk round to finsh amongst the medals. Ravi, who lifted a total of 321kg in Delhi, could only manage 170kg in clean and jerk to finsih with an overall weight of 311kg.

Kum Sok Kim of North Korea lifted 324kg and the won the gold. Morteza Rezaeian of Iran too lifted 324kg but got a silver as he weighed more than the North Korean.

Indonesian Triyatno won the bronze for his effort of 321kg.
