LONDON - Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips will be quizzed as a witness to a nightclub bloodbath in which the club manager suffered a severe facial injury.
According to the Sun, violence had erupted in Manchester’s Panacea club at around 2.50am on Sunday after Wright-Phillips was spotted chatting to a female reveller.
“Officers are going to talk to Shaun. He was an observer,” the tabloid quoted a Manchester City insider, as saying.
A witness confirmed that Wright-Phillips was in the club when the incident took place.
“I was next to Wright-Phillips at the time it kicked off and he was with a girl. Then more people became involved - about 15 for at least five minutes. The players used a side exit and were bundled into cars. There were a lot of footballers in there, but they never got involved with any trouble,” the witness said.
Panacea club manager Joe Akka suffered a facial injury in the mayhem when he was attacked close to the club’s VIP area.
Witnesses have told Greater Manchester Police (GMP) that they saw Akka being smashed in the face with a glass.
Akka was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where it is understood he underwent surgery.
Meanwhile, a GMP spokesman said that a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, and bailed until January pending further inquiries. (ANI)
