Asian Games archery: Indian women’s team wins recurve bronze

GUANGZHOU - India’s women archers missed a golden chance to upset World No.1 South Korea in the semifinal and had to finally settle for the recurve team bronze medal by defeating Chinese Taipei at the Asian Games here Sunday.

The Indian team comprising Dola Banerjee, Deepika Kumari and Rimil Buriuly defeated Chinese Taipei 218-217 in a close contest at the Aoti Archery Range.

In the semifinal, India were trailing by two points after the first round that South Korea won 56-54. But after two good rounds, the Indian archers opened up a two point lead at 167-165. The Indians, however, failed to hold on to their nerves and shot a poor 54 against the 56 by the fancied South Koreans in the fourth round, after which both the teams were tied at 221.

In the shoot-off, the South Koreans showed their class by scoring 29 while the Indians managed 26.
