Siddle credits England’s bowling coach David Saker for hat- trick

BRISBANE - Australian hat-trick hero Peter Siddle has rubbed salt into England’s wounds by revealing the debt he owes to their bowling coach David Saker.

Siddle paid tribute to Saker, his former fast bowling coach in Victoria, after finishing with a career-best 6-54 in England’s first innings of the Ashes opener at the Gabba. David has played a massive part in my development and I spent a lot of time with him before I played Test cricket,” News.com.au quoted Siddle, as saying.

“As I was growing up as a young 15 or 16 year old I got the opportunity to start hearing from him and doing some coaching with him,” he added.

The 26-year-old further said that he was looking forward with working with Saker again.

“He is a great coach and it is disappointing to see him in opposition colours. But I stay in contact and he is still a great person to listen to. Hopefully one day he can be back with us,” Siddle said.

Siddle had celebrated his 26th birthday on Thursday by snaring Australia’s first hat-trick since Glenn McGrath stormed through the West Indies in Perth a decade ago.

The fast bowler started his incredible Gabba rout by having Alastair Cook caught at slip then immediately shattered the stumps of wicketkeeper Matt Prior who was too late on an attempted drive.

He became the 11th Australian to take a Test hat-trick in ramatic scenes when he produced his swinging toe crusher to tuart Broad. (ANI)
