LAHORE - A doctor, who has been issued a notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for making an incorrect assessment on the fitness of fast bowler Sohail Tanvir, is accompanying the national team on the tour of New Zealand.

According to sources, Dr. Riaz got a notice from the PCB on the recommendations of its medical panel.

“Dr. Riaz had given a clearance over the fitness of Tanvir who was selected in the national team for the Twenty20 and Test matches in New Zealand, but when he trained with the other players in the conditioning camp prior to the tour, it became apparent he was not fully fit,” the Daily Times quoted a source, as saying.

“The medical panel of the board then examined Tanvir themselves and recommended to the PCB that he still required time to recover 100 per cent,” the source added.

The source further said that the board had issued a notice to Dr. Riaz asking him to explain his misleading assessment of Tanvir.

“Three days after he got the notice, Dr. Riaz left with the team for New Zealand, an indication of how things work in this present cricket set-up,” the source added. (ANI)
