MUMBAI - Former India captain Anil Kumble has withdrawn from this weekend’s Indian Premier League (IPL) IV auction to be held in Bangalore, citing business commitments.

He had been among the 22 players with the highest reserve price of 400,000 dollars for the IPL auction.

“I wish to withdraw from the players auction for IPL IV scheduled for January 8 and 9 of in Bangalore,” Kumble said in an IPL release.

“I have enjoyed my stint at the IPL so far and thank all concerned for the support extended,” he added.

Kumble retired from international cricket in 2008, and remains India’s leading wicket-taker in Tests (619) and one-dayers (337).

In November 2010, Kumble won the elections to become president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and he is also the vice-chairman of the state’s wildlife board. (ANI)
