SYDNEY - Former leg spinner Shane Warne has backed West Australian left-arm spinner Michael Beer to retain his position in the Australian Test side beyond the Ashes.

Warne, who presented Beer with his baggy green cap before the match, said that was unfortunate that Beer was n-balled by Umpire Billy Bowden after claiming what appeared to be first wicket in Test cricket.

“He is a quick learner. Hopefully he gets a good run at this now, for a few Test matches,” Warne said on Channel Nine.

“I played a few grade games with him, there was something about him: he likes the battle and he won’t be overawed by the situation. He is not afraid to throw it up,” he added. (ANI)
