UK pugilist Haye in talks for fight with Russia’s Chagaev
By ANIFriday, January 7, 2011
LONDON - British boxer David Haye has started talks to defend his world title against Ruslan Chagaev at the end of May.
According to The Sun, the WBA champion is hoping contracts for the bout in England can be agreed within a fortnight after Wladimir Klitschko pulled the plug on their proposed unification clash.
Haye conceded to all of Klitschko’s demands - only for the Ukrainian to choose to defend his IBF and WBO titles against Dereck Chisora instead.
Uzbek boxer Chagaev is Haye’s mandatory challenger but there are doubts after he contracted hepatitis.
Haye’s manager Adam Booth said: “The Klitschko situation is dead. I have asked Chagaev’s manager to supply medical records.” (ANI)
