MELBOURNE - England batsman Paul Collingwood is confident that his team will thrash Australia in the upcoming seven-match ODI series to ‘continue the momentum’ to the 50-over World Cup in the Indian subcontinent.

“It’s huge for us because we want to continue the momentum that we have gained. We’ve got a group of lads who are very focused,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Collingwood, as saying.

“We are very happy with what we have achieved so far on this trip, but we also realize that it’s not the end of the tour yet.”

“We have a lot of things to do well before this World Cup. We knew it was going to be a huge six months for coming over here and then on to India afterwards and we are not finished yet,” he added.

The first match of the seven-match series will be held in Melbourne on January 16.

England had earlier wrapped up the Ashes series 3-1 following their win in the fifth Test at the SCG by an innings and 83 runs.

The victory gave the visitors their first Test series win in Australia since the 1986-87 tour. (ANI)
