SYDNEY - Australian spin legend Shane Warne wants to play a cricket match to raise money for the Queensland flood victims, and has made prominent use of the social networking site Twitter to get the idea moving forward.

Warne came up with the idea of two celebrity-laden cricket teams, a Warne XI and a Michael Vaughan XI representing England, to play a Twenty20 match that would raise funds for the appeal.

Within hours of posting his idea on his Twitter account, Warne had enlisted help from other cricket identities led by former England fast bowler Darren Gough and Vaughan, the winning Ashes captain from 2005, The Sydney Morning herald reports.

The former leg-spinner ran his thoughts past Cricket Australia and Channel Nine on Tuesday, but it was not clear whether the game will be a separate entity or part of the entertainment at an existing cricket fixture.

Warne also wants to following the legends match with a rock concert.

CA has already designated January 30 one-day international at the Gabba as a match to raise funds for the flood victims, although it is still to confirm precisely how it will occur.

Players from both the Australian and England T20 teams rattled tins in the crowd at Adelaide Oval last night and wore black armbands as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives.

Meanwhile, Australia’s cricketers appealed for donations to help flood victims while their English counterparts will donate part of their match fees. (ANI)
