LONDON - FIFA President Sepp Blatter has said that the idea of shifting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from summer to winter to avoid extreme desert temperatures has been put to rest.

Several former footballers and officials had earlier suggested that it would be easier to play the World Cup in January, instead of in June.

“Everything is settled now for summer,” the Sun quoted Blatter, as saying.

“In the bidding documents it was clearly established that the executive committee reserved the right to change anything in the bidding process, but here in this case it must come from Qatar,” he added.

Earlier, concerns were expressed about Qatar’s summer when temperatures can reach 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). (ANI)
