PCB dismisses reports of filing appeal against Amir’s ICC ban

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed reports that it has filed an appeal on behalf of banned fast bowler Mohammad Amir with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Amir, along with former captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, was banned for charges relating to alleged incidents during last year’s Lord’s Test against England, when Britain’s ‘News of the World’ tabloid claimed the players were willing to deliberately bowl no-balls.

Butt was banned for 10 years, with five years suspended, while Asif was handed a ban of seven years with two suspended years.

“We have filed no formal appeal as such. Yes we have written to the ICC about the case in light of the observations made by the ICC anti-corruption tribunal regarding the existing anti-corruption code of conduct laws under which Butt, Asif and Amir have been penalized,” the Daily Times quoted a PCB official, as saying.he official made it clear that the right to appeal against their bans only rested with the three players not with the board.

“The PCB has nothing to do with the due process of law that will follow after the ICC tribunal banned them,” the official said. (ANI)
