‘CWG Village flats strong, will last over 20 years’

NEW DELHI - The flats at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) Village are strong and will last for more than 20 years, the Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.
“As per the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the CWG flats will have a normal lifespan. The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee’s report is not based on any calculation or cross-references,” Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
Roy was answering a question on whether the lifespan of flats built in the CWG village is only 20 years, based on a report of CBRI, Roorkee.
The minister further stated that CBRI’s comment in one of the 13 reports is not based on any calculation or cross-references.
“The results of the tests conducted by the CBRI on the materials and concrete have been found good to excellent. The deficiencies found in one report are rectified, action has been taken and the report has been submitted by the construction agency to the quality assurance team,” Roy said.
He further said that the DDA has reported that the disposal cost of each flat at CWG village is yet to be worked out.
