BENGALURU - England captain Andrew Strauss has hailed spin legend Shane Warne as a genius after the former Australian spin king correctly predicted that Sunday’s World Cup clash with India would end in a tie.

In their Group B pool match, India batted first and amassed 338 before England tied the game off the final ball.

“I think Warne is a genius to have predicted that. What more can I say?” said Strauss after the Group B match in which England equalled India’s score, only the fourth tie in World Cup history.

Warne had predicted the match result via Twitter and missed the opportunity to make some money for his prediction.

“I am taking a lottery ticket out this weekend!” Warne wrote on his Twitter account following the result.

“Can’t believe my prediction 7/8 hours ago was right … didn’t think it would happen but hey, not bad,” he wrote.

Before the match, Warne had predicted the outcome, The Herald Sun reports.

“Looking forward to the game between India and England, today should be a cracker. My prediction [is] a tie!” he wrote on Twitter. (ANI)
