Asian Games handball: Indian men finish 9th

GUANGZHOU - India defeated Hong Kong 34-29 to finish ninth in the men’s handball competition at the Asian Games here Monday.

The men’s team ended their Games campaign with a hard fought victory against the Hong Kong side in the 9th-10th placement match at the Guanggong Gymnasium.

It was India’s second win in the tournament after beating Mongolia in the group stages. The team finished the group stage at 5th position behind Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and China. Hongkong came last in their group.

The women’s team lost to North Korea 17-42 in a Group B match.

The women after losing to North Korea finished fourth and last in the group stage. China topped the group above Japan and North Korea. The Indian women now play for 7th-8th placement Thursday.
