FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — A brief look at Friday’s first- and second-round play in the rain-delayed U.S. Open at Bethpage Black (all times EDT):

Out in front: Mike Weir shot an opening-round 6-under 64, one stroke off the Open record for 18 holes, and held a two-shot lead over Peter Hanson and a three-shot lead over David Duval, Todd Hamilton and Ricky Barnes. When play was suspended because of darkness at 8:24 p.m., Lucas Glover was 6 under through 13 holes, one stroke in front of Barnes, who was through nine holes, and two in front of Hanson, who was through 11, and Weir, who was through nine.

Tiger and Phil: Defending champion Tiger Woods, who won the Open when it was played at Bethpage in 2002, completed a 4-over 74 Friday, while Phil Mickelson shot a first-round 69 and was 1 under through 11 holes in the second round when play was suspended by darkness.

Noteworthy: With most of the second round still to be completed, Saturday’s weather forecast called for 30 percent chance of showers starting at 10 a.m., and then a 50 percent of scattered thunderstorms starting at 4 p.m.

Quoteworthy: “It’s nice, but it doesn’t mean a whole lot. It’s a great feeling, but at the same time, it’s such a long week.” Mike Weir after his 6-under 64 gave him a two-stroke lead after the first round.

Key stat: Of the 13 rounds that bettered par in the first round only two — 69s by Drew Weaver and Graeme McDowell — were posted by those who played part of their round on Thursday and finished on Friday.
