Federer, Serena Williams in Wimbledon action today

WIMBLEDON, England — Second seeds Roger Federer and Serena Williams highlight Wednesday’s second-round action at Wimbledon. Fourth seeds Elena Dementieva and Novak Djokovic are in the schedule, as are Maria Sharapova and American Mardy Fish.

Men’s third seed Andy Murray and No. 6 Andy Roddick were among the first-round winners at Wimbledon Tuesday.

Murray won in four sets as he begins his bid to become the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.

Roddick also needed four sets to pull out a victory and join fifth seed Juan Martin de Potro in the second round.

And 21-year-old American qualifier Jesse Levine pulled off the day’s biggest upset, knocking out 14th seed Marat Safin.

Women’s top-ranked Dinara Safina opened another bid for her first Grand Slam crown with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain. Third seed and two-time defending champ Venus Williams also won in straight sets, as did sixth-seeded Jelena Jankovic.
