Negligee storms to win at Keeneland
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Negligee stormed past heavily favored She Be Wild for a half-length victory in the $500,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland on Friday.
The 13-1 shot with Rajiv Maragh aboard covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.76 on the fast Polytrack surface.
The win means Negligee will be running in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies race next month at Santa Anita.
“She impressed us up in Canada,” Terranova said. “We brought her down (to New York) and she’s trained real forward since.”
Negligee, trained by John Terranova II, raced in fifth position as the favorite tracked Tidal Pool passed through an opening half mile in 48.97. As She Be Wild came to the front coming into the homestretch, Negligee also began her move from the outside. Maragh urged her on and the filly responded willingly for the win.
It was Maragh’s third winner of the day.
“Once she got the lead in the stretch, she pulled away convincingly,” said Maragh, who won three races on the card.
One race earlier, Bear Stables’ Fatal Bullet also earned a trip to the Breeders’ Cup with a win over Capt. Candyman Can in the $250,000 Phoenix Stakes. Ez Dreamer was third.
Fatal Bullet finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint last year.
