Ben Henderson spoiled his opponent Donald Cerrone’s plans of bouting against Jamie Verner as the former defeated Donal in a thrilling fight which many have billed as one the greatest bouts that have taken place in WEC history. It was definitely an amazing fight as both the fighters took over each other with Henderson emerging victorious between the two by a mere margin of one point. Henderson won the much coveted bout 48-47 in order to become the WEC interim lightweight champion.

The match which took place on Saturday at the AT&T Center in San Antonio witnessed Henderson getting through every possible submission move pounded upon by his opponent Donald, thereby paving his way to victory. Donal Cerrone, whose aggressive approach all through out the match nearly took a toll on Henderson seemed quite focused. Henderson somehow escaped each time Donald was trying to take him down. “My hat’s off to him. That’s an absolute war, it is exactly what I wanted to coming into this fight,” said an overwhelmed Henderson after the match, thereby lauding Donald’s efforts.

According to the sources, the fight was originally scheduled to take place on Oct 2 at Ohio, when Henderson postponed the bout after reportedly suffering an injury. Henderson’s ability to expose Cerrone’s weak defense is what that earned him the points as well as the match. One of the most common sights of the match was Cerrone lying to his back and Henderson landing on some serious punches.

The win pits Henderson against the current lightweight champion, Jamie Varner who has been sidelined from the ring since January after breaking his hand in a match against Cerrone, which the champion won owing to a split decision.
