1,600 cops, cameras to keep vigil during Mohali one-dayer

MOHALI - At least 1,600 police personnel would be deployed and around 90 closed circuit cameras installed during the fourth one-day international (ODI) between India and Australia at Mohali Monday, police said Saturday.

“We have formulated a perfect security plan and round the clock our senior officials will be present at the stadium to supervise the arrangements. Quick reaction team, anti-sabotage team, bomb squad and ambulance will be stationed at the stadium,” district police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told IANS.

“There would be sufficient barricades for the frisking of spectators. Our officials, in plain clothes, will also be deployed inside the stadium to keep an eye on any anti-social element,” he said.

The Punjab unit of the Shiv Sena has issued a statement saying they will not allow the match to proceed here.

“In the last few months, Indians have been treated very badly in Australia. There were racial attacks on many Punjabi students and Australian government and police remained mute spectators. Our talks are on with neighbouring states to stop the match,” a Shiv Sena spokesperson said here.

Meanwhile, a Punjab Cricket Association official said: Most of the tickets have already been sold and we are expecting a jam-packed stadium on Monday.

The stadium has a 35,000 seating capacity.
