Rack leads Mississippi St. past Maryland 84-55

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Alexis Rack scored a career-high 43 points and led a defensive effort that forced 28 turnovers to lead No. 25 Mississippi State to a 84-55 win over Maryland.

Rack had 12 points and four assists in the first 10:10 of the game as Mississippi State (4-0) opened a 20-point lead. Her point total is tied for third best for the Bulldogs and was just five points off LaToya Thomas’ school mark of 48 points set in 2000.

Rack scored in a variety of ways, driving the basket early, following her own misses for putbacks and hitting 7 of 13 3-point shots. Mary Kathryn Govero scored 12 for Mississippi State and three players led Maryland (3-1) with nine points.

Mississippi State broke open the game with a 15-1 run after Maryland’s opening basket, extended the lead to as much as 23 in the first half. The Bulldogs iced it with a 9-0 run to open the second half.
