Olympic luge hopeful Clukey hurts neck, won’t race
ALTENBERG, Germany — USA Luge says Julia Clukey will not race in this weekend’s World Cup competition because of a neck injury sustained in an off-ice workout. Clukey will receive a painkilling injection Thursday and reported numbness along her right side. She got hurt doing pull-ups Tuesday.
It’s still unknown if Clukey will be able to race next weekend when the World Cup tour shifts to Lillehammer. The Olympic team will be chosen shortly after that race.
Kate Hansen, who lost her World Cup spot in a race-off Monday, will replace Clukey this weekend. She’ll join world champion Erin Hamlin, Megan Sweeney and newly promoted 16-year-old Emily Sweeney on the American team.
