Schlierenzauer wins ski jump event, leads WCup

ENGELBERG, Switzerland — Austrian teenager Gregor Schlierenzauer has won a World Cup ski jumping event to lead the overall standings.

Schlierenzauer scored his second individual win of the season and 26th career World Cup victory with leaps of 137 and 130 meters Saturday. The 19-year-old jumper had 265.6 points, edging Simon Ammann of Switzerland by one point.

Ammann had 138 and 129-meter jumps and led after the first round. Ammann also won Friday on Engelberg’s large hill to briefly top the standings.

The defending World Cup champion has 342 points, 18 clear of Ammann and 116 ahead of Austria’s Andreas Kofler, who was third Saturday.

Engelberg stages a third competition Sunday before the circuit moves to the Four Hills tournament.
