HOBART - Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has expressed hope that former skipper Younis Khan would return to the national squad for the one-day series against Australia starting in Brisbane from January 22.
“Inshaallah he (Younis) is coming for the ODIs,” The News quoted Yousuf, as saying.
Yousuf said the team needs Younis’ experience during the series.
“He is a very good player. He has played well in the past and we need him for the No 3 position,” he added.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce the squad for the limited over series today (Thursday).
Younis’s career has nosedived in the last two months. The PCB had named him as the captain of the squad till 2011 World Cup, but now, he is even struggling to find a place in the team.
Despite Yousuf’s emergency message to the selectors to send Younis to Australia for the Test series, the board has made it clear that he would not get his tickets for a flight Down Under unless he performs at the domestic level.
However, chances are that he may be included in the one-day squad but that too depends on his performance in the domestic circuit. (ANI)
