White, Clark win again at US Grand Prix

PARK CITY, Utah — Shaun White put together a nearly flawless run for the second straight night to capture the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix on Saturday and stake a claim as a heavy gold medal favorite in next month’s Olympics.

White scored a 49.5 during his first run — just a half-point shy of a perfect score — to beat Scotty Lago by 1.5 points and win for the fourth time in five starts this season. Luke Mitrani was third.

Kelly Clark matched White on the women’s side, scoring a 47.4 to beat defending Olympic champion Hannah Teter by 3.5 points. Kaitlyn Farrington finished third.

White and Clark have already secured spots on the U.S. halfpipe team. The United States will select four more riders later Saturday.
