Teter giving halfpipe winnings to Haiti victims
PARK CITY, Utah — Defending Olympic halfpipe gold medalist Hannah Teter is donating her winnings from this weekend’s U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix to help earthquake victims in Haiti.
Teter, who finished second in contests Friday and Saturday night, said she will give the $10,000 in winnings to Airline Ambassadors, which has collected about $500,000 for Haiti victims thus far.
Teter has long been socially conscious and has a charity, Hannah’s Gold, that helps bring clean drinking water to a community in Kenya. Normally, her winnings go to that charity, but in the wake of the catastrophe in the Caribbean, she decided to make an exception this time.
With her performances this weekend, Teter qualified for the Vancouver Olympics.
