Blizzard keeps Michael Phelps from Missouri meet
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Record snowstorms on the East Coast will keep 14-time Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps out of the annual Missouri Grand Prix.
The four-day meet runs Friday through Monday at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Phelps competed two of the past three years and was scheduled to take part this year until USA Swimming announced his withdrawal on Thursday. Two of his fellow members of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club were also being kept away by the blizzard.
Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte (LOCK’-tee) and 10 other members of the U.S. national team remain scheduled to compete.
