VANCOUVER, CANADA (GaeaTimes.com)- Katherine Reutter and Alyson Dudek advanced to the quarterfinals in the women’s 500 meter short track speedskating. This is a very significant thing for both the women and the country too, since in 2006, the United States short track speedskating team had not brought home a single trophy. Katherine Ruetter managed to secure the first position, completing the race in 44.187 seconds. She was closely followed by Alyson Dudek, who finished the race in 44.560 seconds. They both also form part of the United States speedskating relay team, which consists of four members in all.
This victory is particularly significant for Katherine Reutter, considering that this is the first time that she is appearing in the Winter Olympics. Both Katherine Reutter and Alyson Dudek, who have advanced in the women’s 500 meter short track speedskating, admitted that the first race of any competition is always a rather nervous feeling. However, Katherine Reutter had an antidote for her queasy stomach. She admits to convincing herself, just before the beginning of the race, that the Olympics is just another big tournament.
Alyson Dudek, on the other hand, was rather happy that the whole thing was finally over. She admitted to looking forward to the other races now, much like Katherine Reutter, who confessed she is looking forward most to the 1000 and 1500 meter races. Alyson Dudek felt that the women’s speedskating team from the United States this time is real powerful, while Katherine Reutter promised to fight tooth and nail to win. Both Katherine Reutter and Alyson Dudek, who have advanced in the women’s 500 meter short track speedskating, seemed hopeful about taking home a medal or two this time.
