VANCOUVER (GaeaTimes.com)- Lindsey Vonn managed to win the Gold medal in the women’s Downhill at Winter Olympics on Wednesday despite a severe injury. Lindsey Vonn is the first American woman to clinch the gold medal in downhill skiing. Reportedly, Lindsey Vonn had badly injured her right shin during a training and was not sure whether she could take part at Winter Olympics 2010. According to reports, Thomas Vonn, the husband of Lindsey Vonn had inspired her a lot. On the day of the Olympics, Thomas Vonn apparently went on encouraging Lindsey Vonn that she can make it.
While Lindsey Vonn earned the Gold medal, her teammate Julia Mancuso was placed second. Lindsey Vonn finished skiing downhill in just 1 minute and 44.19 seconds. There was a difference of just 0.56 seconds between Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso. Until last week Lindsey Vonn was apparently applying Australian curd cheese to her injury in order to reduce inflation. She reportedly said earlier, “It’s painful to ski,” as the course was “bumpy.” She even added that she was really fortunate since the game got postponed due to unfavorable weather. She said she badly needed some days for healing.
Lindsey Vonn has proved what willpower and determination can do. In an interview on last Monday she said, her shin was throbbing and she had difficulty walking. However she not only participated in the sport, but took away the Gold medal. After emerging the champion on Wednesday, with tear filled eyes Lindsey Vonn reportedly said, “This is everything I ever dreamed of.”
