Protest filed in women’s skeleton race
WHISTLER, British Columbia — The International Federation of Bobsleigh and Tobogganing confirms a protest has been filed in women’s skeleton, and a person with direct knowledge of the case says it stems from questions about whether leader Amy Williams’ helmet is legal.
The person tells The Associated Press that the protest comes from questions raised by six nations, including the United States, about the aerodynamic makeup of Williams’ helmet and if it is compliant with FIBT rules saying “no aerodynamic elements may be additionally attached.”
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the protest were not authorized to be made publicly.
The FIBT says a meeting of the race jury would be held.
Williams of Britain leads the field and had two of the three fastest times posted in the women’s skeleton event Thursday. The final two runs are Friday.
