Sun saves snowboarding at Cypress
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The chief of sport for the Vancouver Olympics says Cypress Mountain is now in prime condition for its remaining events.
Rain played havoc with the maligned snowboarding venue, but now it’s in good shape thanks to an unseasonable stretch of dry weather.
A relieved-sounding Tim Gayda of the Vancouver organizing committee said Saturday that “Mother Nature is finally being kind to us.”
Gayda says a series of clear, cold nights has created perfect conditions to convert the snowboardcross course into a parallel giant slalom course. That will happen over two days next week.
Gayda calls Cypress’ restoration is “one of the great stories of our games.”
