Suarez Navarro, Ferrer advance at Mexican Open
ACAPULCO, Mexico — Fifth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain beat No. 3 seed Gisela Dulko of Argentina 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the quarterfinals of the Mexican Open on Thursday.
In a men’s quarterfinal at the clay-court tournament, third-seeded David Ferrer of Spain defeated Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas 7-5, 6-4.
Top-seeded Venus Williams was set to play later against Laura Pous Tio of Spain, while Agnes Szavay of Hungary was matched up with Polona Hercog of Slovenia.
On the men’s side, top-seeded Fernando Verdasco was up against Juan Monaco of Argentina, and Fernando Gonzalez faced Eduardo Schwank.
