US chases Finn goalie with 4 goals in 1st period
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Miikka Kiprusoff barely had time to break a sweat.
The U.S. chased Finland’s star goaltender with four goals on seven shots in Friday’s Olympic semifinal in men’s hockey.
Kiprusoff, who plays for the Calgary Flames, skated toward the bench after the fourth goal 10 minutes into the game. He then walked toward the dressing room and later rejoined his teammates on bench.
Niklas Backstrom replaced him and didn’t fare much better. He allowed two goals on the first four shots he faced.
Kiprusoff had mostly been stellar at the Olympics, affirming his reputation as one of world’s best goaltenders. He won the Vezina Trophy in 2006 and led the Flames to the 2004 Stanley Cup finals.
