Fla boat Barefoot wins World Sailfish Championship
KEY WEST, Fla. — The boat Barefoot, skippered by captain Kris McKenney of Fort Lauderdale, won the World Sailfish Championship off the Florida Keys on Saturday.
Owned by Jim and Eve Sullivan of Fort Lauderdale, the Barefoot team caught and released 24 sailfish over three days, collecting $177,125 of the $1 million total prize.
Lights Out, captained by Chester Sims of Key Largo, took second and $175,198 with 23 releases. With 21 releases, the third-place winner was Cracker, skippered by Scott Walker of Duck Key. The team collected $66,857.
Which Way, owned by Robert Southard, Jr., of Hollywood, captured the top $24,570 prize in the nonprofessional division.
Tournament director Michael Weinhofer said more than 600 anglers released 491 sailfish during the event.
