MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Baroda Cricket Association President Chirayu Amin has been named the interim chairman of the Indian Premier League after a governing council met in Mumbai earlier today to take a decision in this regard. Chirayu Amin’s appointment as the new IPL chief comes just a day after the Board of Control for Cricket in India issued a show-cause notice to Lalit Modi and later suspended him.

While talking to the media following the conclusion of the governing council meeting, BCCI President Shashank Manohar revealed that Chirayu Amin would be the successor of Lalit Modi after a unanimous decision was taken by the members of the governing council. At the same time, the BCCI President added that the board would be further probing the allegations surrounding the IPL controversy that have been doing rounds in the media. It has come to light that the former IPL commissioner would be charged on multiple counts that include a suspicious broadcast deal with Sony, dubious initial bids of the IPL teams Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab as well as bid rigging of the two new franchises. Shashank Manohar further revealed that certain important documents could not be found in the Board or the IPL offices due to which BCCI Chief Administrative Officer, Ratnakar Shetty has been asked to look into the matter.

Lalit Modi is expected to reply to the show-cause notice issued by the BCCI within 15 days which is likely to be followed by an inquiry in this regard. While announcing the appointment of Chirayu Amin, it has also been indicated that if the reply issued by Lalit Modi is satisfactory then the charges would be withdrawn.
