Eto’o sent off for nasty tackle against Portugal
COVILHA, Portugal — Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o has been sent off in the 33rd minute of his team’s World Cup warmup game against Portugal.
Eto’o was shown his second yellow card for a high tackle on Portugal left back Duda a minute after Portugal went ahead 1-0 with a goal from Raul Meireles.
Eto’o joined the Cameroon squad last week after winning the Champions League title with Inter Milan.
He threatened to sit out the World Cup after being criticized by former Cameroon great Roger Milla, who rebuked the striker for failing to reproduce his club form with the national team.
Eto’o was Cameroon’s most dangerous player in attack before exiting the game.
