Nebraska, Boise move on; Big 12 tries to hang on

Nebraska has bolted for the Big Ten, Boise State has accepted a spot in the Mountain West and the Big 12 is rallying for a last-ditch attempt to stave off its demise.

All part of a tumultuous day that points toward a massive reconfiguration of college sports.

Nebraska officials decided Friday to leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten, which along with the Pac-10 appears intent on forming a 16-team mega-conference.

Also on Friday, Boise State left the Western Athletic Conference to become the 10th team in the Mountain West and give that conference a greater chance at an automatic spot in the Bowl Championship Series.

Meanwhile, regents at Texas prepared for a meeting next Tuesday that should be the pivotal moment in the future of the shrinking Big 12, which has also lost Colorado.
