Jets’ Revis sits out some plays in protest
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has sat out some plays in practice in protest of his stalled contract negotiations after initially telling coaches he was “lightheaded.”
Revis promised last week he would participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp beginning Monday. But toward the end of the first practice, he told defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman he was “just a little lightheaded” and went to the sideline.
When asked about it after practice, Revis acknowledged he is upset over the contract talks, and called it an “insult” that the Jets’ offers have contained no guaranteed money.
Revis is due to make $1 million in the fourth season of his six-year deal, and wants to be the league’s highest-paid cornerback.
