After 75: Drogba on in Portugal-Ivory Coast match
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Playing with a broken right arm, striker Didier Drogba came on for Ivory Coast in the 66th minute of the team’s World Cup match against Portugal.
The game remained 0-0 after 75 minutes.
To the loudest ovation of the afternoon and with light rain falling Tuesday at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Drogba came on for Salomon Kalou in an effort to break the tie. Drogba was playing with a soft cast approved by FIFA earlier in the day.
In a game featuring plenty of offense and tough tackling from both teams, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo rattled a 30-yard strike off the left post in the 11th minute to nearly put his team ahead.
