Slovakia leads New Zealand 1-0 after 75 minutes
RUSTENBURG, South Africa — Slovakia held onto a 1-0 against New Zealand after 75 minutes on Robert Vittek’s header in their World Cup match Tuesday.
The goal came in the 50th minute when Stanislav Sestak crossed from the right. New Zealand defender Winston Reid missed his defensive header, allowing Vittek to scored from close range at the far post.
Vittek had an opportunity to double the lead in the 69th minute as Slovakia counter-attacked. An exchange of passes came to Vittek in the box, but goalkeeper Mark Paston was quick off his line to smother the shot.
