Spain, Switzerland at 0-0 after 30 minutes in WCup
DURBAN, South Africa — Goalkeeper Diego Benaglio denied Gerard Pique from inside the box as Switzerland’s well-organized defense kept Spain at bay in a World Cup match that remained deadlocked at 0-0 after 30 minutes of play.
Andres Iniesta found Pique clear inside the area in the 24th and the Spain defender dribbled past a defender before Benaglio saved the match’s best chance.
Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas denied Reto Ziegler’s free kick at the other end moments later.
Spain held 70 percent of possession and, through some slick passes, managed chances by David Silva in the 17th and Iniesta in the 21st, but Benaglio saved both at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
