Mexico leads France 1-0 after 75 minutes
POLOKWANE, South Africa — Substitute Javier Hernandez scored in the 64th minute to give Mexico a 1-0 lead over France, after 75 minutes of their World Cup match Thursday
Hernandez broke clear on Rafael Marquez’s pass and rounded goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to score. Television replays suggested he may have been offside.
France has upped its game in the second half and forced goalkeeper Oscar Perez into 55th-minute saves from Florent Malouda and Franck Ribery.
Mexico’s speedy forwards threatened in the first half but their shooting lacked accuracy.
Carlos Vela and Guillermo Franco shot over the crossbar, and defender Carlos Salcido twice exploited gaps on France’s right. He fired a 20-yard shot wide, and made Lloris make a save in the 27th.
