England, Algeria at 0-0 after 75 minutes at WCup
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — England was frustratingly locked in a 0-0 score with Algeria through 75 minutes of their World Cup Group C match Friday.
England looked far from its best even as the team pressed forward for a goal. England’s passing was errant, with midfielder Steven Gerrard particularly struggling.
Algeria looked happy to sit back and grab opportunities to counterattack, but Rafik Halliche had to be alert to head clear Aaron Lennon’s cross intended for Wayne Rooney.
Halliche also blocked Emile Heskey’s shot off a rare England break.
Frank Lampard had the best chance of the match in the first half, but his left-footed shot from 12 yards was saved nicely by Algeria goalkeeper M’bohi Rais Ouhed.
