SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- Phil Mickelson started the first round of the US Open at the Pebble Beach Course with 6 missed putts and two shots into the ocean. The World No.2 was seen finishing with four-over par 75 at one of the world’s most beautiful resorts. On the other hand the opening day saw a stellar performance from the young Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello who finished with one-under-par 70 with four birdies and three bogeys.

Phil Mickelson said that he was frustrated by the opportunities he had lost and said that he will pick up his game the next day. He appreciated the golf course and said that he didn’t want the weekend to end. His blamed his missed putters to the course which he felt made the ball bounce off. After understanding the problem he said he could adjust to it. On the second day Phil Mickelson justified his World No.2 title after finishing with one-under 31 in the front 9 and then continuing the momentum with 5-under-par 66. He finished just two shots below 36 hole leader Graeme McDowell.

Phil Mickelson has previously won three times at Pebble Beach at the AT & T National Event. He however said that the course could become extremely difficult as the tournament progresses. He added that it was going supposed to rain on the weekend and that will be a concern for the players. After day 2 of the US Open he said he was far more satisfied with his performance. He reportedly consulted putting guru Dave Stockton and adjusted his set-up slightly. This, according to him, was the key to his improvement since Thursday.
