FIFA bans Australia’s Harry Kewell for 1 match
JOHANNESBURG — FIFA says Australia’s Harry Kewell will serve a one-match ban for being shown a red card for a hand ball against Ghana.
FIFA’s disciplinary committee announced the suspension Sunday, ruling Kewell out of Australia’s final Group D match against Serbia at Nelspruit on Wednesday.
Australia must win to have a chance of reaching the round of 16, when Kewell would be eligible again.
Kewell was sent off in the 24th minute after blocking a goal-bound shot with his upper arm.
Ghana scored on the penalty kick to level the match, which finished 1-1.
