Spain leads Honduras 2-0 at 60 minutes
JOHANNESBURG — David Villa has scored twice to give Spain a 2-0 lead against Honduras after 60 minutes in their Group H match at the World Cup on Monday.
Villa’s shot from just outside the penalty area in the 51st minute went in after a deflection off Honduras defender Osman Chavez. It was his 40th goal for Spain.
In the 17th minute, Villa broke into the area from the left flank and beat three defenders before sending a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Noel Valladares.
It was Spain’s first goal at this World Cup after losing 1-0 to Switzerland in the opening match.
Villa also hit the crossbar in the first half, while Fernando Torres squandered three chances.
Honduras was pushed back deep into its own half, struggling to cross the halfway line at Ellis Park.
